Behind-the-Scenes: Unseen City Creative Placemaking through Design Tour

Discover how design can make a difference! Explore the design of several neighborhoods and arts spaces–and learn about the vision for their futures. How can the arts be a catalyst for neighborhood change, economic development, and revitalization? Learn about and tour the University of Chicago Arts Incubator in Washington Park, Dorchester Projects, the proposed Pullman Artspace and learn about other city-wide initiatives to understand the steps individuals and organizations have taken to execute their vision to make change in their own neighborhoods; Hear from Kara Riggio, Metropolitan Planning Council; Marlease Bushnell and La Keisha Leek, Rebuild Foundation; Theaster Gates, Director of the Arts and Public Life at the University of Chicago and artist and founder of Dorchester Projects; Landon Bone Baker Architects; Angie Marks of Chicago Neighborhood Initiatives together with Arthur Pearson of Pullman Artspace. Box lunch is included with this daylong bus tour that incorporates various stops.
Tour will end with a brief walk-through of Spontaneous Interventions at the Cultural Center.
